FC Yantra carries on the tradition of organized football in Gabrovo, which began in 1919 with the founding of “Football Club City of Gabrovo” and the playing of the first official match. Over its more than century-long history, the club has gone by the names Otto, Chardafon, Balkan, and Chardafon-Orlovets before Yantra established itself as a symbol of Gabrovo football. Highlights of its history include stints in the Bulgarian top flight, an 8th-place finish in the 1970/71 season, participation in the Intertoto Cup in 1993, and winning the Amateur Football League Cup in 2002.

Today, the “Green-and-Whites” continue to represent Gabrovo, upholding a legacy of football history and tradition spanning over a century.
